Myselfie | The photobooth vikings conquering Europe

Photobooth entrepreneurs, Thomas Bennedsen and Peter Lynggard, have had great success with Myselfie in the Nordics. Now, they want to create happy memories for people across Europe.

Until recently, Thomas Bennedsen earned his living as a DJ at high school parties. Jockeying his discs, he discovered that the youngsters not only loved dancing but also liked to take pictures of themselves. Quickly, he made a prototype of a simple photobooth, and it turned out to be an immediate success. On the first night, the pressure-sensitive camera took four times as many photos as a photographer could take.

“At that point, I got the impression that I had hit something,” says Thomas Bennedsen from the office premises in an industrial quarter in Vejle, Denmark, where Myselfie resides. Soon he got together with his friend Peter Lynggard and established Myselfie.

Today, Myselfie is a permanent fixture for a large part of Denmark’s parties. More than 1000 Trustpilot reviews and a score of 4.9 out of 5 - as well as their office bulletin board with “thank you” messages from customers - underline Myselfie’s success. It all looks and sounds great, but Thomas Bennedsen can also attest that it has required a lot of hard work.

“What has really surprised me the most is that you have an idea that when you get big investments and grow, everything is green and nice. And it is, but there are also a lot more weeds that need to be weeded,” Thomas Bennedsen says grinning.

However, the challenges of the growth journey have not prevented the two entrepreneurs from spreading joy throughout Europe.

“We are well underway in Germany. Our dream is to be widespread in most of Europe before long,” says Thomas Bennedsen, who brings Clearhaus with him on the journey.

“To me, Clearhaus is a bit like a phone subscription. You don’t think you need the customer service, but when you do, it’s actually quite vital. When we talk to Clearhaus’ customer support the staff are just really good at explaining things to us. That’s great because we’re basically just a couple of entrepreneurs who don’t know everything about the technicalities of online payments,” says Thomas Bennedsen.
